The most common myths about pasta
Easy to cook, amazingly delicious and diverse – pasta is the food which brings immense delight, but is also the cause of a lot of myths! Read about the most common ones and find out what is the truth about those appetizing products from the Italian kitchen.
The pasta is not especially nutritious – only dough
In fact it’s exactly the opposite: the pasta is a source of healthy carbohydrates, which alone are very filling. Spaghetti and macaroni from durum wheat contain good quantity of protein, iron, potassium and magnesium and combined with light sauce or meat, could bring the organism a big part of the necessary minerals.
I have to avoid pasta if I want to lose weight
In fact pasta is a healthy product low on iodine, which is a perfect fit for every weight loss regime. Even more, pasta takes more time to be digested by the organism than other foods which helps you to feel full faster. The weight problem usually comes from the large quantities that we take. About 100gr. of raw pasta is enough to have a nice meal without going overboard with the carbohydrates. We shouldn’t forget that the sauce contains calories as well, which in addition to a glass of wine and a plate full of spaghetti or macaroni, could lead to overeating and gaining unnecessary weight. Pasta is a great choice for our menu if we don’t go overboard with the quantities.
If I don’t add olive oil to the boiling water, than the pasta would stick together
In reality you will only unnecessarily waste the olive oil that way. To avoid stickiness you need: enough boiling water (for each 100gr. of pasta – 750 ml. to 1 l.); and regular stirring. It is important to note that unlike the regular ones, the spaghetti and macaroni made from durum wheat retain their shape more easily and stick together less often.
You don’t need to salt the boiling water
According to the Italians if the pasta cooking water is not “as salty as the sea”, the dish would be tasteless. Usually, in order to achieve this effect you need about 2-3tbsp. However, you should be careful not to go overboard and achieve the opposite effect.
The sauce is the most important
Despite the fact that a lot of us enjoy to pour a good deal of sauce on the cooked pasta, the right way is a very small quantity to cover each piece of product. The idea is that the sauce is a delicious addition to the meal, but the focal point should be the actual spaghetti or macaroni.
